On July 31, 2020, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced that USCIS is going to increase the filing fees for certain immigration applications and that it will take effect on October 2, 2020.
The final rule shows that, while USCIS is lowering the fees for certain immigration applications, other immigration benefits such as citizenship will see significant increases. In addition, USCIS will apply, for the first time, a fee to asylum applicants, which aligns with the Trump administration’s policy of making life more difficult for those who are most vulnerable.
