Desmond P. FitzGerald

As the son of an Irish immigrant, Desmond P. FitzGerald understands why people want to come to America. As a Boston immigration attorney, he understands what it takes to make this happen, having helped his Colombian-born wife become an American citizen. Desmond experienced first-hand the anxieties surrounding immigration and understands the importance of serving every client in a dedicated, respectful, and personalized manner.

Through his personal and legal experience, Attorney FitzGerald saw there was little ingenuity and a lack of proactive solutions in immigration law. So to better meet the needs of immigrants, Mr. FitzGerald decided to start his own firm, FitzGerald & Company, LLC, which now operates as FitzGerald Law Company.

For Attorney FitzGerald and his team, there is no greater joy in the practice of law than providing clients with the results they dream of. He has successfully represented immigrants, filing legal actions in federal courts against many government agencies, including the Department of Homeland Security, USCIS, Immigration & Customs Enforcement, the Department of State, the Department of Labor and the Registry of Motor Vehicles of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Some key legal accomplishments include:

• Fighting for and obtaining the recognition of step-children of U.S. citizens as “unconditional” legal permanent residents,
• Getting the Immigration Service to accept applications from detained immigrants without a fee, and
• Having the first residency petition approved for a same sex marriage by the U.S. District Court of Massachusetts.

As an experienced criminal litigator, Attorney FitzGerald has the knowledge and skill for minimizing consequences of criminal charges or convictions for immigrants and U.S. citizens.

Desmond served for over 8 years as legal counsel for the Colombian Consulate for New England, and his firm works to recognize the benefits the immigrant community contributes to our communities and country, by delivering quality legal representation to protect their rights and help them realize their immigration goals.

After graduating with a B.A. from Boston College, Attorney FitzGerald had the opportunity to live in Bogotá, Colombia, and study Spanish at Universidad Javeriana. He received his law degree from the New England School Law Boston, and is admitted to practice law in the following jurisdictions:
